Located just minutes from Downtown Statesboro and the Blue Mile lies a vacation rental that blends luxury with heartfelt design.

The Grey Vacation Home is not just a place to stay; it's a testament to the vision and creativity of the late Paula Horn, renowned interior decorator and co-owner of Savannah Home Consignment Furniture and Home Decor. Designed to accommodate up to 11 guests, this expansive 4,000 sq. ft retreat features a unique blend of comfort and style. Let's delve into the story behind this remarkable vacation home and the legacy of the woman who brought it to life.

A Vision Realized: The Design Philosophy

Paula Horn’s approach to interior design was rooted in creating spaces that were both functional and aesthetically pleasing. With over 30 years of experience in furniture and retail, she brought a wealth of knowledge to every project. Her work on The Grey Vacation Home was no exception. Drawing inspiration from her consignment shop in Statesboro, she curated a space that reflects a harmonious blend of modern elegance and timeless comfort.

Thoughtful Interiors: A Room-by-Room Exploration

Upon entering The Grey Vacation Home, guests are greeted by an open-concept living area that exudes warmth and sophistication. The living room features plush seating arrangements, carefully selected artwork, and ambient lighting that creates an inviting atmosphere. Adjacent to the living area is a fully equipped kitchen, boasting Smeg Italian appliances, ample counter space, and a dining area that comfortably seats large groups. Each of the home's bedrooms is uniquely designed, offering a mix of king and queen-sized beds, high-quality linens, and ample storage space. The bathrooms are equally impressive, featuring modern fixtures, spacious showers, and thoughtful amenities.

Amenities That Enhance the Stay

Beyond its stunning interiors, The Grey Vacation Home offers a range of amenities designed to enhance the guest experience. High-speed Wi-Fi ensures connectivity for both work and leisure, while smart TVs in common areas and bedrooms provide entertainment options for all ages. The home also includes a dedicated laundry area, complete with washer and dryer, adding convenience for longer stays. Outdoor spaces are equally inviting, with a spacious patio area perfect for gatherings, and a well-maintained lawn that offers a serene setting for relaxation.

A Prime Location in Statesboro

Situated just minutes from Downtown Statesboro, GA, The Grey Vacation Home offers guests easy access to a variety of local attractions. The nearby Blue Mile is a bustling corridor filled with shops, restaurants, and cultural landmarks. Georgia Southern University is also in close proximity, making it ideal for families visiting students or attending university events. The home's central location ensures that guests can explore all that Statesboro has to offer with ease.

Dining Along the Blue Mile: Local Flavors Near The Grey Vacation Home

The Blue Mile, just minutes from The Grey Vacation Home, is a go-to destination for diverse, local dining. Whether you're craving something casual or more elevated, this corridor has something for everyone.

Looking for something bold and different? Try Huey’s on Main for Cajun flair dishes featuring spicy jambalaya, gumbo, and po’boys reminiscent of New Orleans. For a lighter bite, Del Sur Taqueria offers inventive tacos and a rotating list of local craft beers.

Caffeine lovers will also feel right at home—Three Tree Coffee Roasters and Cool Beanz Espresso Bar serve quality coffee in inviting, community-focused spaces. To explore more of Statesboro’s dining scene, visitors can stop by the Visit Statesboro center for recommendations on hotspots that reflect the heart of the city.

Just a few doors down, Vino 1910 Wine Bar provides an elegant setting for small plates and curated wines from around the world.

A Statesboro favorite, Gnat’s Landing, combines Southern comfort food with a lively patio perfect for groups and live music. For guests seeking a fine dining option, Bull and Barrel Steakhouse serves hand-cut steaks, signature cocktails, and a warm, upscale setting.

Mexican cuisine fans can head to El Sombrero or Azul Tex-Mex, known for its vibrant atmosphere, flavorful dishes, and margaritas that make any evening feel like a celebration. If you’re in the mood for classic Italian-American, Holiday’s Pizza on South Main is a must-try. Their handmade pizzas, pasta specials, and laid-back vibe make it a great choice for dine-in or takeout.

For international flavors, Tandoor and Tap offers an authentic experience of Indian cuisine.

Shopping, Activities, and Local Culture: Discover What Makes Downtown Statesboro Unique

Whether you're planning a quick weekend stay or a longer group retreat, the Blue Mile provides endless opportunities for exploration. And thanks to The Grey Vacation Home’s prime location, guests can enjoy these experiences within a short drive (or walk) from where they stay.

Local stores like Charlie’s Funky Junk Shop offer everything from quirky home goods to curated vintage finds.

For something more adventurous, Boro the Hatchet delivers high-energy fun with axe throwing lanes perfect for group outings.

Art and creativity are alive and well on the Blue Mile. The Averitt Center for the Arts hosts rotating exhibits, performances, and community workshops throughout the year, making it easy to engage with the local art scene.

If you’re looking to brighten your space or pick up a gift, The Flowergirl provides fresh floral arrangements and seasonal décor with artistic flair.

Professionals or remote workers staying at the vacation rental will find Divvy Desk particularly useful. This well-equipped coworking space in Downtown Statesboro, GA offers high-speed internet, quiet workstations, and conference rooms—ideal for staying productive while enjoying your trip.

Another must-visit is the Statesboro Main Street Farmers Market, held on Saturdays during the warmer months. The market showcases local farmers, food vendors, and artisans selling a variety of local goods and specialties. It’s a wonderful way to support the community while experiencing Statesboro's vibrant small-business culture.

The passing of Paula Horn   on October 5, 2024, was a significant loss to the Statesboro community. Her contributions to interior design and enhancing local business aesthetics are fondly remembered. Her husband, Mike Horn, co-owner of Savannah Home Consignment Furniture and Home Decor, continues to uphold the standards and vision they shared.

Named after their granddaughter, Savannah, the shop has become a local gem offering upscale, gently used furniture and refined home accessories. After relocating to Bulloch County from Atlanta more than a decade ago, Paula opened the store as a retail space to connect with the community and build trust in her design work.

With over 30 years of experience in furniture and retail—including her work with the staging business Staged 4 Show—Paula transformed Savannah Home into more than a consignment store. Located next to Three Tree Coffee, the store reflects Paula’s eye for beauty and her deep passion for creating spaces that feel both elegant and welcoming.

The Grey Vacation Home is more than just a place to stay; it's a reflection of Paula Horn's enduring legacy in Statesboro, GA. Its thoughtful design, comprehensive amenities, and prime location make it a standout choice for travelers seeking comfort and style.

Whether visiting for leisure or business, guests will find a welcoming retreat honoring the memory of a local trailblazer.
